Chaparral Itinerary

Autumn, Winter and Spring walking holiday, tailor-made for former clients, is a moderate to challenging walk of great variety. There are five days walking and one rest day when you may visit Granada and the famous Alhambra. We use a 4 x 4 to reach the trailheads.

The detailed itinerary is as follows:-

  • Day 1. Arrival in Orgiva. This was originally organised for clients who had done the Alpujarra & 4 Sierras, so this similarly graded trek has been designed with different walks.
  • Day 2. An introductory walk up the Sierra de Lujar to the south of Orgiva. This will giva a panoramic view of the Sierra Nevada and the valley of the Guadalfeo.
  • Day 3. Drive to Cadiar and start walking along the river before climbing to the village of Lobras. We then take an ancient trail to Juviles and on to a rocky promontory which was formerly the site of a tenth century castle which has since disappeared. This has amazing views of 360 degrees. Back to Cadiar by another route and then drive to Yegen for the night.
  • Day 4. Walking through eroded sandstone country with ravines and spires before climbing much higher into the Sierra Nevada and returning to Yegen through chestnut woods and by mountain streams. Drive back to Orgiva for the night.
  • Day 5. Rest day. There is a market in Orgiva or you may travel by bus to Granada to visit the magnificent Moorish palace - the Alhambra.
  • Day 6. A walk up above the village of Soportujar on the Sierra Nevada and up to a ridge where you can see Mulhacen, the highest mountain on the Iberian peninsular. There is a wonderful view of the Valley of Pocqueira with its cluster of small white villages. Descent through oak woods and along waterways.
  • Day 7. Drive to Los Guajares in the coastal mountains. Starting from a sub-tropical valley full of exotic fruit trees, we climb the jagged limestone Sierra de Chaparral and onto the ridge where there are stunning views of the Mediterranean, the valley of the Rio Verde - the Green River - and in the opposite direction the snows of the Sierra Nevada.
  • Day 8. Departure from Orgiva. .....................................How to Book
