Early almond blossom and maybe snow on the peaks. San Sebastian fiesta, patron saint of Orgiva, with amazing fireworks 20th January. - February
Late almond blossom and good views of snow on the Sierra Nevada. You may reach the snowline on a Winter Walk. - March
Spring flowers on the lower slopes, many beautiful and unusual species. There are tiny narcissus, wind lilies and early orchids. - April
Migratory birds arriving in Andalucia. Wild orchids, including the rare Butterfly Orchid, and a mass of cystus and lavender on the hills. - May
The best season for wonderful wildflowers with an enormous variety on the grassy slopes. Clouds of butterflies on the Sierra Nevada. - June
Eagles, hoopoes, bee-eaters and rollers to be seen . Green and lush with yellow broom. San Juan water festival and Carnival in Lanjaron. - July
Time to relax and enjoy the sun and the pool. Moors & Christians in Andalucia, and the fishermen's fiesta on July 16th. - August
Enjoy swimming and the shady terrace or go up Mulhacen for 'Our Lady of the Snows' - Virgen de las Nieves - on August 5th. - September
Getting cooler. Ripening figs and juicy grapes are a temptation on the walks. Orgiva feria for 5 days at the end of the month. - October
Lucious persimmons and rosy pomegranites. Collect chestnuts as the leaves turn bronze. Autumn colours get better as the month passes. - November
Starts with a blaze of glorious colour. Red and golds against a deep blue sky with a smell of wood smoke and wild mushrooms. - December
Winter coming with log fires and red wine. Can still be warm and sunny in Spain, but maybe snow has come again to the mountain peaks.
