Things to do in the Alpujarra
There are various activities you may choose to do from our Orgiva base, ranging from the leisurely and cultural to the exhilarating and slightly mad.
While staying on a self-catering holiday or tailor-made trip you may want to know what else you can do or see in the area.
On the cultural side, visits to Granada and the Alhambra are a must, of course, and if you are here in July you may book for the Music Festival. There are also concerts in Motril, and ocasionally in Orgiva and neighbouring Lanjaron. In different months there are also local fiestas in Andalucia and plenty of events in Orgiva. In Lanjaron there is a spa, where you may book a treatment for the truly laid back, or you may just like to relax at the outdoor cafes under the plane trees.
On the rather more energetic side, there is of course our plunge pool, but there is also a full size public pool in Orgiva - summer months only. For exercise on foot there are tennis and padel courts and golf courses not too far away. and in winter a day on the ski slopes is possible at Sol y Nieve resort in Sierra Nevada. For a mixture of both exercise and culture, there is a flamenco school in Capileira.
For those that like to take their thrills sitting down there are horses for day rides in the Alpujarra at the riding centre of Dallas Love in Capileira. If two wheels rather than four feet are more your style, we can arrange bike hire suitable for dirt track forestry roads, with or without a guide, and for the brave there is off-piste mountain biking at Switch-backs.
Finally, of course, you can come on one of our beautiful day walks to see the best of the countryside and magnificent scenery at an enjoyable pace, with opportunities to take photos, bird watch and plant hunt.
"Thank you for sharing all your knowledge of the region, through countryside paths, great views and the lesser known sights of Granada " - Lesley Garner, Chelsea 2011.
